The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has officially unveiled its institutional brand identity, marking the formal transition from the defunct Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
The unveiling of the new logo took place in Abuja on Wednesday and signals the commencement of a fresh phase in Nigeria’s revenue administration following the signing of the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Act 2025 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in June.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of the NRS, Mr Zacch Adedeji, described the unveiling as a major milestone in the ongoing reform of the country’s tax and revenue system.
He said the new identity reflects the vision of a more coherent, efficient and citizen-focused revenue authority.
According to Adedeji, the rebranding represents “a renewed commitment to a more unified, efficient, and service-oriented revenue system, one that is aligned with Nigeria’s economic transformation agenda and global best practices.”
He explained that the transition from FIRS to NRS was not merely a name change, but a fundamental redefinition of the legal and operational foundations of revenue administration in Nigeria.
“The new identity signals continuity of purpose, strengthened institutional capacity, and a forward-looking approach to supporting taxpayers and national development,” he said.
A statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Dare Adekanmbi, noted that the service officially came into operation following the enactment of its enabling law, which dissolved the former FIRS structure and replaced it with the Nigeria Revenue Service.
The statement said the unveiling of the logo is one of the earliest high-profile initiatives of the new agency and is intended to set the tone for a modern and responsive revenue system.
It added that the NRS views its new identity as an essential tool for building public trust and improving engagement with taxpayers nationwide.
“The Nigeria Revenue Service remains committed to transparency, partnership, and service excellence,” the statement said. “The unveiling of this new identity represents not an end, but the beginning of a strengthened relationship between the revenue authority and the Nigerian public — built on trust, clarity and shared prosperity.”
The leadership of the NRS said the rebranding exercise underscores its resolve to support national development through improved efficiency, more transparent communication, and a more service-driven approach to revenue collection, as Nigeria pursues broader economic growth and fiscal reforms.
The Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act has provided a new legal and institutional framework for revenue administration in the country, marking a decisive shift from the former Federal Inland Revenue Service to the newly created Nigeria Revenue Service.
The Act, which replaces FIRS with the NRS, is designed to restructure and modernise Nigeria’s central revenue authority, equipping it with clearer powers, stronger governance structures and greater operational independence required to function effectively in an increasingly complex economy.
Under the new law, the Nigeria Revenue Service is positioned as a professional and technology-driven institution with a mandate to deliver more efficient and credible revenue administration. The Act places strong emphasis on efficiency, integrity and performance to strengthen public confidence in the country’s tax and revenue system.
The Act also introduces enhanced internal controls and oversight mechanisms to address revenue leakage, improve compliance and ensure that taxes and other revenues are adequately assessed and collected.
The Act reinforces the principle that sustainable public finance depends not only on well-crafted tax laws, but also on capable institutions that can implement those laws fairly, reasonably and efficiently.
