Barely 5 days into the historic election, American singer and actress, Beyoncé, Knowles and her colleague-husband, Jay Z, on Friday night campaigned for Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton.
They campaigned in Cleveland, Ohio at a concert aimed at appealing to young voters, blacks and other minorities to vote and ensure is made in their own lifetime.
If Clinton wins, she will become the 45th American President but the first woman ever to lead the country. Countries like Chile, Britain, Germany, Brazil, Malawi, Liberia etc have had a couple of female leaders, some as far back as the 70s while some of them have a female leader at the moment.
The final Friday of the 2016 election cycle followed days of musical and political celebrities campaigning on Clinton’s behalf.
The Grammy-winner took to the stage shortly after Jay Z (real name, Shaun Corey Carter) performed a mix of his own hits over the years for the jam-packed crowd.
Beyoncé opened her ‘Get-Out-the-Vote’ campaign concert with “Formation” wearing ‘I’m With Her’ Shirt and appealing to African-Americans to vote for Clinton.
She said, “There was a time when a woman’s opinion did not matter.
“Less than 100 years ago women did not have the right to vote, look how far we’ve come to having voice to being on the brink of history by electing the first woman president.
“But we have to vote. The world looks to us as a progressive country that needs change,
“I want my daughter to grow up seeing a woman lead our country and know that her possibilities are limitless.”
Jay Z urged voters to ensure that Clinton was elected president.
He described her rival, Donald Trump, of being divisive and insulting in his campaigns.
“His (Trump’s) conversation is divisive to me; he cannot be my president,” he said
Clinton needs big margins on election night to defeat Donald Trump, who is leading the polls in Ohio.
The Clinton campaign is making an aggressive push to urge voters in Ohio to vote early.
Jay Z’s appearance in addition to his wife Beyoncé, one of the biggest entertainers in the world, added more star power to the Cleveland event
The music megastars are among several others like them including Katy Perry, The National and John Legend, all helping Clinton to make a final appeal to young voters.
However, Trump, rallying voters in Pennsylvania, as the Clinton concert began, dismissed the concert, declaring that he filled the stadium without special guests.
He said, “I hear we set a new record for this building, and by the way, I didn’t have to bring J-Lo or Jay Z.
“I am here all by myself, just me; no guitar, no piano, no nothing.”
