After months of delay and suspence, the Senate has rejected the nomination of Ibrahim Magu as substative Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The Upper Chamber blamed an unfavourabe ‘security report’ for its decision to reject President Muhammadu Buhari’s nominee for the position of top anti-graft fighter.
Senate spokesman, Aliyu Abdullahi, confirmed this development to journalists after a closed-door session.
“The Senate wishes to inform the public that based on available security report, the Senate cannot proceed with the confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
“The nomination of Ibrahim Magu is hereby rejected and has been returned to the President for further action,” Abdullahi said.
The Senate had slated Thursday to screen Magu, who has been in office since last year.
He took over in acting capacity after Ibrahim Lamorde was sacked.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had since July written to the Red Chamber to request the confirmation of Magu as substantive boss of the anti-graft commission.
