A meeting convened by Acting President Professor Yemi Osinbajo over boundary disputes between Akwa Ibom state and Cross River state on one hand and between Cross Rivers state and Ebonyi state on the other has ended in deadlock.
The meeting, held at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday, was attended by Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state, Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River state, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state and officials of National Boundary Commission
Governors Ayade and Umahi declined to speak with State House correspondents after the meeting. The duo hurriedly left the Presidential Villa.
Last month, a boundary dispute between people of Oku Iboku in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state and those of Ikot Offiong in Odukpani LGA in Cross River, left no fewer than 20 people dead.
The fight was said to be the third since December last year.
Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state had last month appealed to the federal government to quickly settle the boundary dispute between the people of Azuofia Idda and Ohene in the state and their counterparts in some communities in Cross River state, which has claimed many lives.
He said strong political will from the two states was needed in resolving the problem, which he said was well-known and age-long.
