The Presidency said on Tuesday that the present administration under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari has not failed as is being speculated by the opposition.
Briefing State House correspondents as part of activities to mark the two years anniversary of the present administration, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said it was unfair to say the All Progressives Congress-led government has failed when it was only in its midterm of a four-year mandate.
“You cannot write the report card of this administration in two years. The mandate is four years and is too early in the day, you don’t reach definite term in the midterm.
“We will have a lot more to fulfill. If anybody tells you APC has failed, tell them it’s too early in the day, we still have two years, it’s a four year term,” he said.
Adesina, who briefed journalists alongside the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Garba Shehu and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity in Office of the Vice President, Mr, Laolu’ Akande, said no scientific survey has been conducted to show that the present administration has failed
Adesina also dismissed reports on alleged planned coup, saying the remarks by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, was only “a routine warning from the army.”
He said there was the need for Nigerians not to take the reports of the alleged coup beyond what it is.
The also denied report that the federal government paid two million Euros to secure the release of the 82 Chibok girls from the Boko Haram insurgents, saying the report was a hoax.
He said: “No two million Euros was pay anywhere. If there was any payment, the government would have told Nigerians. To the best of my knowledge, there is nothing like that.
“The President said if it meant paying, he will pay. Anytime this government pays a dime for their release it will make it public. How do we get the girls back if we don’t negotiate?”
