The Universal Agricultural Empowerment and Development Initiative (UNAEDI) has donated relief materials and cash to the Kutara Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Masaka, Nasarawa state.

Kutara IDP camp is about 30 minutes drive from the heart of Masaka town and it was established in 2014 by religious organizations for IDPs that fled the insurgency in the North East States of Borno, Yobe and Adadmawa.

Speaking after presenting relief items made up of mostly food items, UNAEDI’s President,  Austine Osaretin Ighodaro, said the organisation’s gesture is borne out of the need to ensure that Nigerians do not suffer unjustly.

He noted that the people have been turned into IDPs because of lack of love by their fellow citizens.

According to him, “if we love one another, you cannot go to their villages and states and destroy their properties and displace them.

Mr. Osaretin called on the government to come to the support of the IDPs just as he urged those in the camp not to give up hope or be discouraged by their present situation.

Speaking to Blueprint, one of the IDPs, Mrs. Safinatu Joshua, said that the situation has not been easy for them. According to her, the land was bought and built by some well meaning Nigerians.

For his part, the leader of the IDPs, lamented the lack of government support since the camp was setup, urging the government to come to their aid.

He said: “We don’t have a school, there is no hospital and we have been staying her for the past four years. There is scarcity of water. We plead with the federal government to come to our aid.”

Meanwhile, as part of its New Year charity tour, UNAEDI also visited the Talitha Cumi Orphanage home and Treasure orphanage foundation in Abuja donating relief items and cash gifts to the orphanage.

Universal Agricultural Empowerment and Development Initiative is a non Governmental and humanitarian organisation , that mobilises, train and empower the youths, less privileged, IDPs.

The organization has presence in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Seychelles, USA and Canada.

The organisation has trained over 50,000 youths on skill acquisition and modern ways of agricultural practices across Nigeria and beyond.
