Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday had a close-door meeting with the National Peace Committee headed by former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd) at the State House in Abuja.

The meeting, which started some minutes after 4:00pm, lasted for two hours.

Leader of the delegation, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, declined to give details of what transpired at the meeting, saying they were only on a courtesy visit to the Acting President.

The meeting was the first the committee had with Osinbajo since the present administration came into power in 2015.

Members of the committee that attended the meeting were Arch-Bishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan; Bishop Hassan Kukah and Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe (rtd), among others.

The committee, initially known as the National Peace Committee for the 2015 General Elections met with President Muhammadu Buhari in August 2015, where it expressed concerns about the ongoing anti-corruption war of the present administration.

The committee said it was worried with the way and manner the anti-graft war was being pursued by the government, saying the country was no longer in a military regime.

After another meeting with the President in August 2016, Abubakar told newsmen that the committee was working quietly behind the scene to ensure amicable resolution of crises in the country,
