The Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Tuesday met behind closed-doors with Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, and National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, over the continuous killings in Benue.
Ortom told State House correspondents after the meeting that the security situation in the state had improved in recent times due to the efforts of security agencies.
“Any time the Benue state government makes request, whether from the police, DSS, civil defence; they are ready to augment what we have on ground. That alone is positive result.
“Benue state would have been worse than where we are today even at the point we took over the mantle of leadership, but we have been able to reduce criminality, assassination, killings and armed robbery to its barest minimum.
“I can’t say we have eliminated all but we have reduced it. So, that is the positive result of the synergy we have with the Federal Government,” the governor said.
Ortom added that herdsmen and the farmers in the state “are now cooperating.”
